Ted Evans

I watched Stanley Kubrick's fantastic 1956 movie ''The Killing'' tonight, & noticed this cycle shop in several scenes. 'Ted Evans Motorcycles -  Triumph & Ariel'...

...did a little search & found some interesting old photos. This was located in California, est. 1947.

Yeah, I'm watching the same movie. I did a quick internet search and your website is the first thing that popped up. I thought Stanley Kubrick only filmed in New York, but I guess I was wrong.
Thanks for the info.

Ted Evans Motorcycles was located on W. Washinton blvd at Walgrove Ave. where Culver City, Marina Del Rey and Venice CA meet.It was run by Ted Evans son Doug from the 1960's until they closed up shop. Good shop and good people....I believe James Dean bought a 1955 TR5 Triumph at this shop.

I worked at Evans shop in the mid 70's. Ted and Doug were great guys to work for. When I was there they had Husqvarna, along with the Yamaha, and Triumph if I remember right.

Good times

Hey! Looks like we all came here for the same reason! Here are pics of the location as of 2018.

The exterior of Ted Evans' shop is essentially unchanged except for the paint. Even the large, cantilevered sign is still in place on the roof. The shop address is now 13347, while 13339 is now Marina Beach Hair, located on the east corner of the block.

The modern mish-mash of architectural styles permeating SoCal is a sad reminder of why nothing beats the Old L.A. Cheers -

Speaking of the movie "The Killing", I'm pretty certain that the bus station where Sterling Hayden picks up the suitcase is the old Greyhound bus station in Hollywood on Vine Street (near Sunset). The first time I came to Hollywood (back in the early 1980's) I got off at this bus station. I think the building is still there, although I have not been in that part of town in ages.

February 09, 2024–I’m watching “The Killing.” My work took me all over LA. I love googling the movie locations of places I’ve been. And I love Kubrick films!

Wondering if that’s the same station in “Welcome to the Jungle” video by Guns-n-Roses….
