Concert Update

First up Leon Russell - played for 45 minutes - nice band - Leon's piano playing is top notch as usual, vocals aged to perfection.
Leon's Set list - mostly from memory, so may not be in correct order

Rollin In My Sweet Baby's Arms
Stranger In A Strange Land
Sweet Little Angel
Wild Horses
Back To The Island
Out In The Woods
Hummingbird
Prince of Peace
A Song For You
Papa Was A Rolling Stone/Paint It Black/Kansas City medley

Next up - Bob Dylan - Charlie Sexton back in the band - finest sounding group on the planet - subtle, powerful, loose, tight, vintage, futuristic, vaudeville, avant garde...everything together. Dylan's always been one of my favorite ''phrasers'' no one can twist words into and around music like him...I would say Sinatra is the other master ''phraser.''
Fantastic new arrangements on most all of these songs, standouts would be ''Simple Twist of Fate'' - blew my mind - the best arrangement of the night & I'm gonna say even better than the original. "Ballad of a Thin Man" - the current version is unreal - ghost notes, blue notes, echo on Dylan's voice ringing in your head. Another major re-working is on "High Water (for Charlie Patton)" this has gone from an angular & heavy guitar piece to a banjo laden, cosmic saloon version - Great!
