True Grit

My wife & i actually went to a movie theatre to see this one...i cant even remember the last new movie i wanted to pay good money for & make the effort to watch but this was a good one. When i first heard about it i thought it was the worst idea ever...why remake a classic? No one is going to like it better than the original, & its going to get instant comparisons. But this was actually really well done & didnt need any computer graphics or 3D gimmicks.

Stompin' 76

August 1976, over 150,000 people attended the ''Stompin' 76'' Bluegrass Festival near Galax, VA.  A lot of the roads leading to the event were backed up with cars & vans, so motorcycle or helicopter ended up being the only way to get to the place. On top of that chaos, the Pagans MC showed up and took over ''security''.
 Below from the official site:
Saturday night in the natural cow pasture amphitheater while Bonnie Raitt performed, over 70,000 folks crammed into the actual concert area. However, due to traffic backups, cars were being parked on the interstate over 11 miles away. People just parking their cars in the right lane and packing there camping items on their backs, kid's wagons, however they could. Huge tracts of farmlands surrounding the little one lane road up to the top of the hill where the site entrance was, were packed and crisscrossed with every kind of vehicle and campsite imaginable.
Bonnie Raitt wouldn't ride in any helicopter so after a lot of frustration, she jumped on the back of a Harley with her guitar, dress blowing in the breeze- got up that hill to the site pretty fast.
 The lineup was amazing.
Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt & Nashville Grass, Vassar Clements, Ry Cooder, John Hartford, Osborne Brothers, The Rowans, John Prine, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Doc & Merle Watson, The Dillards, Hickory Wind, New Grass Revival, Red, White and Bluegrass, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Papa John Creach, David Bromberg, Star Spangled Washboard Band, Eric Weisberg and Deliverance, Grass On The Rocks, Good Ol' Boys, Joe and Bing.

Song Saturday #2

JJ Cale & Leon Russell. Two great writers whose names arent as famous as their songs are. Eric Clapton's hits ''Cocaine'' & ''After Midnight'' are Cale songs. Lynyrd Skynyrd's ''Same Old Blues'' & ''Call Me the Breeze'' are also Cale songs. ''A Song For You'' made famous by Willie Nelson is Russell's. Russell is also behind Joe Cocker's best work, as well as being a studio musician on lots of famous records from The Beach Boys to The Byrds.
